Parts Needed to Add Battery to Horse Trailer to Power Trailer Lights
Question:
Hello, I would like to add a deep cycle battery to my horse trailer to power the lights while disconnected from my truck. The trailer currently uses a 7-pin connector. Can you provide a wiring diagram including any fuses, switches or isolators that would be required to use/charge the battery? Thank you.

We don't have a specific wiring diagram to add a battery like this but the process isn't overly complicated. You will need a battery box like # 329-HM318BKS along with wire # 12-1-1 to run to each light and a switch # PK34308 to turn the lights on an off unless they have one built in. You can run the power to the lights directly from the battery or add an in-line fuse with # SWC9539.
I would also add a junction box # 38656 and tap into the 7-way so you can get a maintenance charge on the battery whenever you are towing. A battery charger like # CTEK56353 will be able to completely charge the battery when it gets depleted.
