Recommended Wheel and Tire For Switching to 15 Wheel On Carry On 5 x 8 Utility Trailer

Question:

I currently have 4.8-12 wheels/tires on my carry-on utility trailer that is 5 x 8. I would like to put larger 15 inch wheels on it for an upcoming road trip. What wheels and tires do you recommend? Thanks!

If you are able to move up to a 15" wheel and tire I recommend the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire with 15" Aluminum Wheel # KE27JR. This tire is 27.3" tall and 8" wide is of radial construction and speed rated up to 81mph. Your 4.8-12 # AM30660 is only 20.3" tall and 4.75" wide. So you will need to ensure you have 2-5/8" side wall clearance and 6-1/2" of vertical clearance. To fit this you will likely need to add some sort of wheel spacers to move the tire away from the frame and a Lift Kit # LC87120 and or axle flip kit depending on your suspension. If you can provide me with the amount of clearance you have along with your suspension type I can help you determine what all will be needed. Your fenders may also need to be replaced or moved to accommodate for the tires as well.
