Recommended Class 1 Bike Rack For Two 53 Lb Bikes
Question:
Hollywood TRS HR3000 rack. Will it work with a Class I 1-1/4 hitch? And do you think warranty and all legalities aside, just asking for your sense that one could go slightly over the 100lb max weight - e.g. for two 53lb bikes?

While it is not recommended to use the Hollywood rack # HR3000 with a class 1 hitch, technically speaking it can be done. The bike rack will install into the 1-1/4" receiver. That being said I do not recommend using the Hollywood rack # HR3000 for this purpose. The rack is rated for 2 bikes weighing up to 50 lbs apiece. So with two 53 lb bikes, you would be overloading the rack. I am not saying that this will cause the rack to fail, but your would be knowingly overloading the rack and taking a very large risk of non-warranty damage. Putting your bikes, your vehicle, and others at risk is never recommended.
Instead I recommend going with the Kuat NV # BA12B. This rack is class 1 compatible, and can hold two bikes weighing up to 60 lbs apiece. This is a great quality bike rack. I have been using the Kuat NV personally for almost 3 years now and I have been very happy with it. It is fully lockable, and it makes loading and unloading your bikes very easy. It has built in anti rattle so it will be very secure in your hitch. Also, it is just a cool looking rack, and it will look great on the back of your car.
I have linked a few of our videos below if you want to take a look.
