Parts Needed to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2009 Ford Flex without Factory Tow Package
Question:
Hi, I recently purchased a 2009 Ford Flex Ltd that did not come with the Tow Package. There is however, a brown connector for a brake controller located under the dash. My question is, Do you know where the blue wire is located in the back of the vehicle to wire up to the 7 way? Or what my situation may be? Any help would be appreciated...

If your 2009 Ford Flex did not come with a factory 7-Way trailer connector then the plug you found is most likely not fully functional and you would need to hardwire in a brake controller. None of the controller wiring harnesses are listed as fitting the Flex if it does not have the factory 7-Way.
To install a brake controller you will first need to install a 4-Way, # 118472. If the vehicle already has a 4-Way you can skip this step.
Then you will need a 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. This will provide the 7-Way and the wiring and accessories needed to install a brake controller. I have included some links that will show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885. It is easy to set up, easy to use, and its reliable.
