Fit Looks Tight for Reese Pull Pin Lock Plates for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP58093

Question:

I want to try these, but it looks like the space between my installed pins and the botom of the rails would not allow for the plates to be placed on the pin. Please see the attached photo.........Thoughts?

Thank you for the photo of your 5th wheel base rail and mounting pin and clip.

The Reese Pull Pin Lock Plates # RP58093 you referenced are intended to be used with a pad lock to secure your hitch mounting pin. In order to use these on your 5th wheel you will need to replace your mounting pins (or at least one of them anyway) with a new pin that has a notch in the end. We offer part # 6020PIN.

Given the tight fit around your base rails installing these may be easier with a helper on hand to lift the hitch base so that you can get the play you need to fit the lock plates around the ends of the mounting pins.

With this pin in place you can attach the lock plate and then insert the shackle of a lock like # 131D into the larger hole in the lock plate. The photo provided illustrates how the lock plates are used. You can certainly also source a padlock locally.

Another option that might be better for your limited-clearance application is lock # TR63254 from TowReady.This 1/2-inch diameter chrome-plated steel pin lock includes 2 keys.
