Can a Dexter Mobile Home Axle Be Converted To Use Standard Wheels and Tires?

Question:

Hello, I recently bought a trailer that has Dexter MH axles on it with 8x14.5 donut style tires. I will be using this on highways what hubs could I use to replace the factory ones and run regular tires?

To make the switch to regular wheels and tires you will need to replace your Dexter MH axle with a new axle. This is due to the mobile home axle using different components and sizes than a standard axle. Since Dexter designs these axles to be thrown away they do not offer any replacement parts to convert the axles. That is the reason you see mobile home haulers carrying entire spare axles and tires rather than just bearings and hubs. Because they are throw away axles this makes them very popular for people building home made trailers since they can get them for next to nothing.

If you can tell me the with of your axle from hub face to hub face along with the with of the spring pads from center to center I can give see if we have a replacement axle you can use. Be sure to also include how much weight the trailer is rated to carry so I can ensure the new axle has the correct weight rating.
