Brackets For Mounting Lippert Manual Pull-Out RV Steps To A Trailer Frame

Question:

We have a 2015 Forest River Wildwood X-Lite which uses a Flexco single step. We purchased the Lippert Manual Pull-out Double step to replace the Flexco. The Lippert Universal Support Brackets are currently 25 inches apart, but I need 25 1/2 inches apart for the new steps. I purchased a new Universal Support Bracket and modified it by adding a 1/2 inch spacer and a mounting tab see attached photo of bracket - still needs a hole in the tab and painted before installation. I will shorten the left welded bracket leaving a 1 1/2 inch stub and bolt the new bracket to the welded bracket stub. The added tab of the new support will connect the outer end of the bracket to the trailer using the existing bolt. Per the Lippert step installation instructions, the step frame should rest against the trailer frame or user should install support bars or tubes. Do you sell the support bars or tubes, or are they really necessary with the new Lippert steps? Thanks,

The only brackets we currently offer for RV steps are the Lippert Outriggers for Manual RV Steps # LC301704, which would mount directly to the frame of the trailer. Supports are definitely needed to hold the steps securely to the trailer frame and help prevent as much of a springboard effect when walking up or down the steps. Lippert is essentially stating to either mount it directly to the frame or build a frame off of the trailer frame to securely attach your steps, which you could do with tubing from your local hardware store.
