How to Choose Correct Double-Eye Leaf Springs For Keystone Cougar

Question:

Can I safely replace my 4 leaf springs on my Keystone Cougar half ton fifth wheel trailer with, say, a five leaf spring? Also, are there heavier spring hangers than the ones that came with my Dexter #4400 axles.

You may be able to get leaf springs with an extra leaf or two for your Keystone Cougar half-ton, it just depends on the leaf springs you need. While we don't have any way of knowing what specific ones you need, to find the right ones all you need to do is measure your current leaf springs from center-to-center of the spring eyes.

Leaf springs also flatten a bit over time, so you should go with ones that measure a bit shorter than what you currently have. For example, based on your trailer weight you may have 7,500 lb or 8,000 lb axles, and if they measured 25-1/2" go you can use the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,500-lb Trailer Axles - 26" Long # e27SR.

Or if they were, say, 24-3/4" long you could use the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e44SR.

I have added a link below to our entire selection of leaf springs, which you can filter through by length and capacity. As for your questions about spring hangers, there are not heavier ones.
