Troubleshooting Excessive Tire Wear On The Inside Of Left Front Tire Only  

Question:

Have a 2017 268 RK SR forest river trailer trailer wirh dexter axles and have excessive tire wear on the inside of the left front tire. Have gone through 2 tires. Last one only laster 1800 miles. What could be causing this kind of wear?

Generally, if a tire is wearing on the inside, it is due to an overloaded axle. However if it is only happening on one side, I suspect a bent axle or spindle. Especially if you have been going thru tires like that, there is definitely something off with the left front spindle. Diagnosing a bent spindle can be tricky, even a slight bend of a few hundredths of an inch can throw it off. You would want to take your trailer to a professional trailer axle shop and have them look at it.

Spindles can be replaced with something like the TruRyde # TRU47FR. This would have to be done professionally. Generally we recommend replacing the entire axle. We would want to know the weight capacity, and hub face length of each axle in order to replace it.
