Is The Curt Q24 Compatible With A Turning Point Pin Box

Question:

Looking at a curt q24 hitch with legs that work with the factory RAM puck system. Truck is a 3500 long bed. Trailer has the Curt turning point pin and wondering if this hitch system will work with this pin? Can the turning point be disabled for the Q24 hitch since I have a long bed?

I do have a solution for you, but the Curt Q series fifth wheel hitches like the # C16545-16021 are not compatible with turning point pin boxes. Basically the construction of the head unit does not allow it to withstand the side to side movement caused by a rotating pin box. You would have to disable the rotating turret on the pin box in order to use a Q series hitch.

If you are still in the market for a hitch, I recommend instead getting a Curt A series hitch like the # C16046. This is a 25K hitch and will fit right in to the factory puck system in your 2023 Ram 3500. These are designed to be compatible with rotating pin boxes. You will need the sidewinder wedge # C16992 to go with it. This prevent rotation at the king pin and allow your turning point pin box to work normally.

All of this being said, a turning point bin box really is not needed with a long bed truck. Generally you will have plenty of turning clearance and we would do a fixed 5th wheel hitch and a fixed pin box.
