Troubleshooting OL Error On Curt Triflex Brake Controller

Question:

Just read the Curt Triflex OL fix. This is a brand new trailer with 2 axles. I have checked the following: Blue wire from controller plug to trailer connector. No short good continuity. Blue wire from controller plug to trailer connector wire end at trailer. No fault. Breakaway battery engages trailer brakes without issue. The trailer brakes are wired as follows: Blue wire runs on one side of trailer and the two brakes on that side go to that wire and to ground on frame. Two wires branch out from that side ground and blue through axle and are connected to the brakes on the other side. Is there anything obviously wrong here that would cause OL?

The OL or overloaded output circuit error on your Curt Triflex means there is a short in the brake output wire. What you described as far as the wiring goes checks out, and it sounds like you inspected everything for a short. If you didn't check it, you also want to take a look at your 7-way connectors. If corrosion is present it is likely the problem.

Since it is a new trailer I wouldn't really expect the trailer to be the issue. If you're getting the error without the trailer connected it is definitely on the vehicle side. It is possible you missed the short or it has a bad connection at the trailer connector at the rear. I would go ahead and double check. You could also just run a new wire with # 10-1-1 which would either eliminate the problem or rule that out.
