Troubleshooting a Demco Hijacker Autoslide Hitch That Is Making a Clunking Noise

Question:

I have a demco auto slide 18k and towing my 5th wheel home the other day it started making a clunking noise when I pull out in a turn. After I got home and removed trailer I found a round blue rubber piece laying at the back end of the hitch mounts.

To me that looks like one of the urethane bumpers # DM15469, so you'll want to replace that first. This was most likely caused by wear and tear as the clunking I believe to be related to your capture plate needing to be adjusted.

What you're going to need to do to fix it is, measure your pin box width, and ensure you have adjusted the plates evenly on both sides to 1/8” over the total width of the pin box.

You probably have too much space between the place and the sliding mechanism is moving more than it should.

If you've done that and still have an issue, feel free to come back and we can continue to troubleshoot.
