Installation Of The Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Jack Leg Mounting Brackets

Question:

Hello, Kevin C. answered my original question regarding the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 system but I have a follow up question. It looks like the mounting bracket appears to be designed to fit onto an “I” beam because it looks like it has several offsets to fit over the beam. Can you provide more detail on how it bolts to a flat surface box frame or am I looking at the wrong mounting bracket? When I contacted Lippert their customer service indicated that it is designed for an “I” beam frame and would not work on a rectangular tube frame. Kevin also indicated the mounting bracket has to be bolted with nut and bolt but the instructions indicated that 1/2 inch self tapping bolts are used to mount the bracket to the frame. Can you clarify what type of fastener is used? Thank,

The mounting brackets for the rear legs of the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Electric 5th Wheel RV Leveling System w Touchpad and Remote # LC675817 are designed for I-Beam frames but I had mentioned before that others will a box frame have had the system welded to the frame in order to make it work. A proper weld will be stronger than the standard hardware that's included with the kit. Installation this way would require a bit of work by a fabricator to ensure proper fitment since the mounting brackets are designed to slip onto the lip of an I-Beam frame. I've seen it done before so it's possible, but it will most likely be expensive to get correctly installed. The mounting brackets do come with 3/8” - 16 Hex Head self-tapping screws for mounting to the frame.

The amount the kit and then to get the kit properly installed would most likely be more expensive than it's worth for the trailer. If you could provide me with some more info on your trailer I'd be happy to look for other solutions that wouldn't require as much retrofitting and would cost less.
