Can Self-Adjusting Brakes Be Loosened During Install If Already Dragging on Brake Drum?
Question:
I installed the self adjusting brakes on my camper but I hear a brake shoe dragging. They tight putting them on so I was wondering if they need an initial adjustment to have them where they don’t have an initial drag.

It does sound like the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA does need an initial adjustment. Typically this is not needed but there is a chance that it may have adjusted it self from bouncing around by the shipping service. There is a retainer which will need to be held out and allow you to loosen the brakes adjustment. This is more easily done when the drum is off the brake assembly.
