What PSI Level Should Air Springs In A Ram 2500 Be At To Tow A Grand Design Reflection 29RS
Question:
I have an Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System with Adapter - 20,000 lb in a Ram 2500, crew cab, short bed with air suspension kit. I tow a Grand Design Reflection, 29RS. Do you have a suggested level of air for this setup. My air system runs from 6-38#s. I ran 33 #s with my old hitch and have been running 17 #s with the new hitch but it seems to ride rough. I love the ease of connecting with your system. I would appreciate any thoughts or recommendations you might have.

There's honestly too many factors to consider to have a set psi level for air springs. We run into this question pretty often with 5th wheel pin boxes or gooseboxes that have an internal air spring and the answer is to just start with a low psi and work your way up until the ride reaches your desired comfort level. The Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System with Adapter # AM3200 is light weight and easy to use, but it doesn't have any shock absorption so it will tend to give you a rougher ride than other hitches on the market.
To help with ride quality you can also upgrade the equalizers for your trailer's suspension. An upgraded equalizer like the Dexter E-Z Flex Suspension Kit # K71-652-00 can help absorb the road shock before it transfers up through the frame to the connection at the hitch. To find the correct equalizer for your setup you'll need to measure from center to center of the eyelets of your current equalizers and know the axle capacity. If this interests you then let me know what your measurement and capacity is and I'd be happy to find the correct components for you.
