Troubleshooting OL Code on a Prodigy P2 Brake Controller on a 2014 Toyota Tundra Limited
Question:
I have a2014 Tundra limited. I purchased an adapter pigtail that attached to both the truck and Prodigy 2. It was an easy installation but now when I put on the brakes an Over Load code comes on. What are some causes for this? It seems to do it mostly when the truck is at a stop and the brakes are applied lightly.

The OL code that you are seeing on your Prodigy P2 brake controller indicates that the brake controller is seeing an overload. Possible causes for this are a short on the electric brake wire or a poor ground connection.
The first and easiest step is to inspect the trailer connector on the truck and trailer for any corrosion. If you see any green or white residue on the pins, that could indicate that corrosion has spread into the connector as well. You will want to repair or replace the connector as necessary. You will also want to check the main trailer ground. Make sure it is free of rust or corrosion and secured to a clean bare metal surface on the trailer tongue.
Next, I recommend inspecting the electric brake power wire on your trailer for any pinched, frayed or damaged sections that could be causing this problem. I also recommend checking the grounds for the brake magnets on the trailer. There will be two wires coming out of the back of the brake assembly. One wire should be connected to the brake output power wire and one wire should be grounded to a clean bare metal surface on the trailer frame. It does not matter which wire is grounded because they are not polarized.
Depending on the age of the trailer, it may also be possible that the brake magnets are worn. If the wiring is all in good condition, I recommend inspecting the brake magnets themselves. If you see the copper windings on the face of the magnet, then it is time to replace the brake magnets. You can also test each magnet to make sure it is functioning properly using a multimeter like part # PT89ZR. I have attached a help article that explains how to test brake magnets for you to check out.
If you are unable to find the problem or a solution, let me know what you come up with after following these steps and we can do further troubleshooting.
