How Does Blue Ox Patriot BLU37TR Get Power From Towed Vehicle?
Question:
Can a small UPS be used to allow the tow vehicle 7pin power to supply the patriot braking system. If so, can you let me know the amp/watt draw of the brake system when idle and when engaging the brakes. New vehicles do not have continuous power to the cigarette lighters and directly connecting to the battery does not seem like the best alternative as it could leave me without power in the towed vehicle. Help me with the watt/amp draw info and maybe you can offer a small UPS as an accessory to others once validated.

Expert Reply:
No, the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR cannot be powered by a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply).
The only method to power the # BLU37TR is by wiring a dedicated 12v outlet # RM-9332 to the battery. The Patriot won't drain your battery to dead due to the minimal power draw, but if you're concerned about that you can add a charge line circuit # RM-156-25 to keep your battery topped off, or start the vehicle when you stop to get fuel in your motorhome to allow the alternator to top off the battery.
