Determining Turning Clearance With 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box

Question:

I am considering a Rees Goosebox on a 2022 Dutchman Yukon 410rd, pulled by a 2022 Ram 3500 with the 6’4” bed. Any issue with turning clearance? I wouldn’t expect to have to make many 90* turns, but would like to know what the expectation should be.

To determine the clearance for a 5th Wheel to Gooseneck pin box like the Goose Box # RP85FR use the following formula:

(A + B) - C = Clearance

A = Distance from center of gooseneck ball to truck cab
B = Length of offset (which is zero for these pin boxes)
C = Width of trailer divided by 2

The "Clearance" needs to equal at least 4 to make a full 90 degree turn, and it looks like your Dutchmen Yukon 410RD is 101" wide, so "C" will equal 50-1/2. So measure from the center of the gooseneck ball of your Ram and subtract that from 50-1/2 to get the clearance. That number will give you an idea of how close you can get to making a full turn; you're right it won't be 90 degrees, but you will still have a pretty good radius.
