Recommended Baseplate For A 2023 Ford Bronco Wildtrak With Factory Powder Coated Steel Bumper

Question:

Hi I have a 2023 Bronco Wildtrak. The standard bumper is powder coated steel with recovery D-rings. Not plastic. And not the HD modular setup. Not sure which base plate would work and don’t want to lose my D-rings for off roading. Can you point me to the correct products?

For the factory powder coated steel bumper on the 2023 Ford Bronco Wildtrak you would need the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM92ZR. Unfortunately this baseplate mounts in place of you D-Rings, as well as all other compatible options, so you would have to choose between flat towing and off-roading since it wouldn't be an easy task to swap back and forth. If you don't want to swap over and have another vehicle you'd like to flat tow in place of the Bronco then let me know the year/make/model and I'd be happy to find the correct components.

If you decide that you do still want to flat tow the Bronco then I have the following recommendations:

Tow Bar: etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e74ZR. This tow bar comes with safety cables bracketed to the arms so you won't have to purchase some separately or worry about them dragging on the ground. The head and shank offer a bit of adjustability to help keep the tow bar level between the motorhome and Bronco.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: This is going to require a bit of investigating on your part to see if you have variable voltage tail lights. If not you can use the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. If you have variable voltage LED's you'll need to use part # RM38FR and for variable voltage incandescent lights you'll need part # RM26FR.

Braking System: Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39524. This braking system will require setup each time but is super easy to pop into place and clamp onto your brake pedal and get out on the road. It includes a remote that will display when the brakes are activated in your Bronco and will allow you to change your brake settings from the driver's seat of your motorhome. It also comes with a charge line kit to keep your Bronco's battery charged while towing.

If you would prefer a fixed braking system that wouldn't require setup each time then I'd just need to know the brake type of your motorhome (hydraulic or air) in order to choose the correct system.
