Recommended 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch For A 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 With OEM Prep Package

Question:

I am buying a 2024 Chevy SilveradoHD 2500 High Country the bed is 6ft 9 inches. The truck has the factory fifth wheel / gooseneck option with it. I will be pulling a 2023 Forest River Wolf Pack 315PACK12 RV which is 40ft long. What is the best hitch to get for my Chevy if you can let me know make, name model and if fixed or slider. The GVWR on fifth wheel is 14260lbs just in case you need that thanks.

We always recommend using a sliding hitch whenever the bed of the truck falls down to the 6' range. From there you'd just need to decide if you want a fixed slider or automatic slider, which really depends on how much you'll be needing it. With your trailer being forty feet in length you'll most likely have to pull really ride and then go into a bit sharper of a turn to maneuver around so an automatic slider like the Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider - Chevrolet/GMC Prep Package # DM29GV might be the best option.

A typical slider hitch would require you to get out of your truck release the slide lever and pull forward to slide the hitch head into the maneuvering position and then make your turn. After you make the turn you'd have to get back out and pull the lever and then get back in the truck and backup to the trailer to push the hitch head back into the towing position before you could continue on your trip. The DM29GV would automatically slide back as you turn so that you never have to get out of the truck to make those tight turns.

The trade off here is that this hitch is HEAVY and would require a few people to lift out of the bed whenever you need to use it for something else. If your trailer has a non-standard pin box like the Rhino Box or Trailair Rota-Flex then you would also need to purchase the special capture plates for it to clamp onto the pin box. The Rhino would require part # DM76FR and the Trailair would require part # DM6171.

Overall this hitch is top of the line in quality and the guys at Demco have always provided great customer service and advice when I've needed it so you can't go wrong with an Autoslide.
