Correct Weight Distribution System for a 2018 Crossroads Zinger 280BH Travel Trailer
Question:
Hello, I have a 2018 Crossroads Zinger 280BH. I am looking at the Curt weight distribution system. Your site recommends the Curt C17063 system for my trailer. Its rated at 14,000 lbs GTW and 1,400 lbs TW. According to the specs for my trailer, its GVWR is 9,480 and has a TW of 680lbs unloaded. Is there a reason why you recommend the Curt C17063 rated 14K w/1.4K TW vs Curt C17062 rated 10K w/1K TW. As for my tow vehicle, its a 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500HD crew cab long bed. Thanks

The system likely bumped you up from the 10K Curt MV # C17062 to the 14K Curt MV # C17063 on account of the tongue weight. Tongue weight for a weight distribution system is a little different than trailer tongue weight as it handles both the loaded tongue weight of the trailer and any cargo sitting behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
If we use the 10% - 15% loaded tongue weight rule puts your loaded trailer tongue weight in the 948 lbs - 1,422 lb range, so add that with any cargo behind your rear axle and that's why you have a system that seems a little overrated for your setup.
When choosing a weight distribution system it's more important to go by the tongue weight range than the gross towing weight of the system.
