Recommended 7-Way Connector for a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/out the Factory Towing Package
Question:
I am installing a brake controller on a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee without the tow package. Is this needed Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7

Yes, it is. Since your 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have the tow package you have to install the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. This is in addition to an existing 4-way connector like item # C62VR.
The item # ETBC7 kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it. You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller, connect the black wire to the positive post on your Jeep's battery, the white wire to a suitable ground, and the yellow wire to your Jeep's reverse circuit.
I have linked an installation video below.
For a brake controller, I recommend the I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Trailer Brake Controller item # RED24FR. This is a proportional brake controller that automatically adjusts your trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your Jeep. The Liberty has a unique design where the main unit is concealed behind your dash and the only part visible is the control knob.
You will need the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers item # RED69FR to complete the installation, since your Jeep does not have the tow package.
