Purpose of Red Wire on Curt 59146 Wiring Harness

what is the red wire used for in CURT 59146 Taillight Converter and if it is not installed, is there any problem

Although we do not carry the Curt 59146 I can tell you that the red wire connects to the brake light wire on your 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. This is a 3 to 2 wire converter so it will combine the brake and turn signals to be compatible with the trailer wiring system. If you do not connect the red wire the stop signal will not be sent to the trailer lights.
