Recommended Upgraded Roof Rack for a 2010 Toyota RAV4 Carrying Two Heavy Kayaks
Question:
We are hauling our 2 Hobie outback kayaks. They weigh 75 pounds each. Our existing crossbars are flexing some. Will these crossbars hold up better than the factory installed ones?

Expert Reply:
Yes, the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA118B-2 with the Rhino-Rack SX Series Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRSX100 will work better than your OEM bars as these crossbars have 15 more pounds of carrying capacity.
What was likely happening is your OEM bars were being overloaded which is the flex you are seeing. With these bars having a 165-lbs capacity, and your Hobie kayaks weighing a total of 150-lbs, you'll have plenty of capacity and should not run into any more flexing issues.
