Comparing Rhino-Rack, Thule and Yakima Low Profile Cross Bars For a 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness

Question:

Rhino-Rack Vortex StealthBar Roof Rack # JA7970 I read Kyle’s recommendation for this roof rail. The problem that I see with it is the rubber bands that secure it to the raised rails of the 2023 Outback Wilderness. Noting that the wilderness goes on rough roads and with 150lbs attached to the rails via a roof basket I’m seeing the straps failing. Even on a smooth highway driving 75mph through Arizona with cargo in the basket. The wind force on those straps could cause them to fail especially after a few years of use and the sun and heat damage too. Thule has the same set up and that is why I’m looking elsewhere. Do you have any suggestions for a low profile cross bar for a 2023 Outback Wilderness and I do not have a sun roof? One that clamps on with metal clamps and has keyed locks in black. Plastic covers over the clamps is ok too.

The Rhino-Rack Vortex StealthBar Roof Rack # JA7970 actually has rubber coated stainless steel straps which secure it to the raised rails on your 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness. So you won't have issues with the straps failing. If you are only using your rack for a roof basket the Rhino-Rack is a great option. I do prefer using the Thule Rack # TH96FE, # TH69SC if you are constantly changing your roof mounted accessories. With the Thule having the 2-piece channel seal you will not have to trim like it required on the Rhino-Rack. This will have a similar rubber coated metal strap to secure to the crossbars.

With you wanting a blacked out rack check out the Yakima Timberline FX # Y28UV. With this rack they have moved the lock cylinder under the cap. This not only removes the lock cylinder from being visible outside the rack but it also helps to reduce moisture and dirt from getting into the Lock Cylinders # Y07208. This also uses an integrated clamping system to attach to your roof raised rails rather than a strap like the other racks above.
