Parts Needed to Add a 7-Way on a 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon w/ an Aftermarket 4-Way Already Installed
Question:
I have a 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon. We have a 4 way flat wiring harness already installed U-Haul brand. I purchased a Hopkins 4 flat to 7 blade adapter which is functional. However, we recently purchased a 13foot Scamp camper and wed like to have the correct wiring harness for the brakes in addition to the lights and signals. A friend recommended looking into a Curt wiring. What is my best path forward? Thanks

The 4-way that is already on your 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon will work just fine for what you need to do. In order for the brakes on the trailer to activate properly along with the lights you need to have a fully functional 7-way (not just an adapter) and a brake controller.
To get that fully functional 7-way, you will actually just adapt your current 4-way using the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. I also recommend picking up the No-Drill Mount Bracket # 18136, which provides a mounting point for the 7-way bracket included in the # ETBC7. This allows you to then use a brake controller, which is how you utilize the brakes on your new camper.
Personally, I like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR. This option allows you to use the brakes on your camper, while not having a big bulky controller in your Outback. This will install using the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED69FR.
