How to Keep Truck Tailgate From Hitting Trailer Coupler When Using Equal-i-zer System
Question:
Hi. I have a travel trailer that I tow with a 14,000 lb Equalizer WD hitch I bought from you guys about 2 years ago. I have the hitch adjusted so that the trailer is level when towing, I recently had a professional adjust it properly for that because it had been wrong for a long time. Unfortunately now when hitched up I cant open the tailgate, it rests on the tongue of the trailer on the couple, not the tongue jack. Is there any way to fix that?

To gain more clearance I recommend swapping our your current shank for the 18" Long Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4600. This is the same thing that came with your 14K system # EQ37140ET, but it puts the tongue of your trailer out an additional 6" to your current setup. From what you were describing this should be enough to open up your tailgate without hitting your trailer coupler.
