Replacement Options For An Atwood G6A-6E RV Water Heater

Question:

We have an Atwood G6A-6E water heater in our coach, and since they no longer make that one, Dometic says the the 94001SP will work. But the problem is, is that the 94001SP is deeper by about 3 inches. Do you know of a water heater that will fit in the older water heaters space without modifying all the plumbing and furnace ducting that was behind the original water heater?

Most likely you will need to still have to do a bit of modification to connect your water and gas lines to any new water heater since manufacturers do not follow any standards for inlet/outlet placement. The best replacement option for your Atwood G6A-6E is going to be the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR98SR. That being said, it has a 19-3/16" depth so it may take up more space than you can afford.

If this is the case then the next best option is going to be the Fogatti RV Tankless Water Heater # LSB64FR, which is 14-3/8" long x 15" wide x 15" tall. This should give you enough clearance for your furnace ducting, but may still require a bit of reworking of your water and gas lines to connect.

If you're completing this installation yourself you'll also want to pick up some butyl tape # AL28FJ and non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 in order to properly seal the mounting flange of the unit and the edge of the access door to prevent water from leaking into your walls.
