Recommended RV Air Conditioner System For A 1998 Chinook Concourse Class B Motorhome

Question:

I have a 1998 Chinook Concourse and am looking at replacing a Dometic Duo-Therm Penguin. It is attached to a Dometic Dual Zone thermostat. I need to make sure that everything that I buy will directly replace my existing unit with nothing else required. I am having an outside tech to install. I need the air Conditioner, Interior air management ceiling cover and heat strip included. Interested in either the Advent or Furrier systems. Can you please help me in making the right decision. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Since you're replacing the air distribution box and rooftop unit you'll also have to replace the thermostat and controller. For me deciding between an Advent Air or Furrion system has been a no-brainer lately with Furrion being the better of the two. Furrion has come out with higher efficiency units and provides better customer support whenever I have a question, which I can't say the same for Advent Air.

The Dometic Penguin is a 13,500 BTU rated unit so if you wanted to stick with that rating you would need the Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System # FR95PV (Black # FR35PV). From there you can also add on the heat strip # FR35SR.

If you wanted to upgrade a bit then you could go with the Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System - 15,000 Btu - White # FR55PV (Black # FR23PV). These units have a 15,000BTU rating, which means that it will be able to cool a larger space better, thus making them more efficient.

The only other things you might need just come down to spare wire to run between the controller and thermostat (if the provided wire isn't long enough) and some electrical connectors (butt connectors, wing nuts, etc.) which the installer should have, but it wouldn't hurt to have some of your own to avoid any markup material costs.
