Troubleshooting Brake Controller Not Working

IS THERE ANY WAY TO CHECK A BRAKE CONTROLER MY BRAKES COME AND GO LIKE TO CHECK CONTROLER BEFORE BUYING A NEW ONE THIS IS A 2007 TRAILER AND CONTROLER IS 8 to 10 yrs old

There are ways to get a good idea if the problem is the brake controller but it involves some troubleshooting and more info. When the controller stops working does the connection to the trailer go away on the controller? Are there any error codes at this time? If the connection is lost when it stops working that is most likely an intermittent connection due to corrosion on the pins of the trailer wiring connector. This can pretty easily be fixed with sandpaper cleaning the pins.

If the controller doesn't show a disconnection that is most likely an internal problem requiring replacing. This sometimes can be fixed with a hard reset which is just unplugging the controller and plugging it back in. Otherwise a new controller like our very reliable P2 part # 90885 would be a really great choice.
