Recommended Hitch for a 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited w/ Full Size 20 Inch Spare Tire

Question:

2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited with 20” wheels and foot activated lift gate. Which of your hitches will work with the 20” wheels and lift gate? If possible I would prefer not to see the cross tube. Also which flat 4 contact light wiring harness?

The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch item # EH35VR you were looking at is the only hitch available for your 2023 Highlander Hybrid that is compatible with a 20" spare. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Highlander with included hardware. I have linked a picture below that shows what this hitch looks like once installed. As you can see the crosstube is concealed behind the rear bumper and the only part visible is the 2" receiver.

We haven't heard of any specific lift gate compatibility issues with this hitch. However, it may interfere with the Hands-free Liftgate sensor like some of the other similar options. Typically this means you will need to place your foot on either side of the receiver tube in order to activate the sensor. Functionality may change but it won't be lost.

We have a couple of options for wiring harnesses depending on whether or not your Highlander has the factory towing package. I have listed them below along with any installation videos we have.

With Factory Towing Package - T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness item # TK74FR

Without Factory Towing Package - T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness item # TK99FR

To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
