Recommended Installation Method for a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2023 Kia Telluride

Question:

The instructions say to check that you have a 2-wire, 3-wire or PWM type wiring. The 2023 Kia Telluride SX-P X Pro has a CAN bus wiring, that is not mentioned, yet this is said to be a confirmed fit. Also, Instead of wiring to the battery, there is a 115 V, 100W max outlet in the rear of the vehicle that could be hooked to a 12V, 7.5 Amp 90W converter ... I think that would work and only be plugged in when towing. I dont believe there is a good concealed way of getting all the way to the battery that wont degrade over time.

Controller Area Network (CAN bus) has been around since 2003 and has been in most vehicles since 2008. The Curt Powered Tail Light Converter item # C59236 is the correct wiring harness for your 2023 Kia Telluride SX-P X Pro.

You don't want to wire it to your rear outlet. We hear this idea a lot and while it is easier to access than the battery, any feedback will blow out the converter and would most likely damage your Kia's wiring. Not connecting the wiring harness correctly would also void any warranty protections.

At the end of the day it is your vehicle and you can install the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter item # C59236 however you would like but I can't recommend or give advice that goes against the manufacturer's instructions.
