Should Head of Demco Hijacker Autoslide Turn by Hand

Should I be able to adjust my demo auto slide head piece by hand? Is there a way to straighten it out auto disassemble it?

Turning the head of a Demco Hijacker Autoslide like the part # DM8550040 is normally too difficult to turn by hand unless the hitch has quite few miles on it since that loosens up the clearances a bit. There isn't a recommended way to straighten it by hand or by disassembly so best option would be to make sure you are totally straight when connecting and disconnecting.
