How to Determine If Reese Goosebox On 2022 Jayco Eagle Will Allow 90 Degree Turns 2022 Ram Short Bed

Question:

I am purchasing a 2022 Jayco Eagle 335RDOK and want to add a Reese Goosebox Gen 3. Where do I find the Lippert frame number on a Jayco Eagle 5th wheel? I have 2022 Ram 2500 with 6 1/2 ft bed and factory puck system. How can I make sure I have enough clearance so the trailer clears the bed rails? Also, will the Reese Goosebox allow 80-90 degree turning? Worried I might have to go with a slider system.

You will find the frame tag on one of the arms which the pin box mounts to on your 2022 Jayco Eagle 335RDOK. It does appear this is going to use the Lippert Rhino pin box which the Reese Goose Box # RP85FR will fit. You will also need a set of Safety Chains # RP49151 with changing to a hitch ball connection.

To verify your clearance I do have some measurements to help you determine you will have the clearance you need. The Reese Goose Box is going to be 19-1/4" from the front mounting holes for the Goose Box to the center of the gooseneck ball. The Jayco is 8'1" wide but does have a narrowed/tapered front cap. I recommend using the Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # GY83XR as it will give you 5" of offset from your current hitch ball with the factory puck system on your 2022 Ram 2500 short bed. You will not have any issue with the bed rail clearance but will need to measure the distance from your cab to the center of the opening for the hitch ball to see how much of a turn you will be able to make. For a full 90 degree turn you will need 49" based on the 8'1" width. The 5" offset brings you down to 44" for a full 90 degree turn. If you have less than that you can use the length you do have along with the new position of the ball mount center to verify how far you will be able to turn with the Eagle 5th wheel.

In my opinion your best option is to add a sliding 5th wheel hitch like the Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch # DM69GV. This will use a Locking Plate # DM76FR on the Rhino pin box. The Demco hitch will automatically slide back up to 14" as you turn to give you the clearance you need to make the full 90 degree turns. As it does this automatically you will not have to get out, pull a lever, get back in your truck, drive forward while holding trailer brakes, and make your turn. Then repeat all the steps over again to slide it back forward when you are done maneuvering your trailer. The hitch includes mounts to drop into your factory puck system so no rail adapter is needed.
