Recommended Roof Rack For Carrying 2 Kayaks On 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited w/ Hardtop

Hi there, I found a previous Q/A very helpful My additional question is - is the backbone parts really necessary for carrying 2 40-50lb kayaks total weight of the kayaks is 100-120 lbs. Will the racks and legs referenced in the below not work - I would assume the backbone is more for heavier gear and or tent platforms...etc? I have a 2021 Wrangler unlimited sport hard top and need to safety and securely transport 2 sea kayaks. I love the idea of the Rhino setup in that the crossbars can be removed when not using but the bars re locked in and the legs bolted in for securing the kayaks, Thanks

Since you're only looking at 120ish lbs plus the weight of the kayak carriers you'd be ok with going with something less heavy duty for your '21 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Hardtop. I recommend the Rhino-Rack system using the following parts:

Crossbars: # RRVA150S-2
Legs: # RRRL110S5-2
Fit Kit # RRVA-FK1-2

This setup has a 165lb capacity which will be plenty for your kayaks, but I recommend checking out the owner's manual of your Jeep to confirm its specific roof capacity, and sticking to the lower rating between the vehicle and roof rack.

If you don't already have the kayak carriers I recommend the # S512-S512X which weighs in at 20lbs so you'll be well under the max capacity of this system.
