12 Volt Circuit Not Working on a 2002 Ford Expedition
Question:
I have a 2002 Expedition that I pull a horse trailer with. It uses the power for the spot lights from the terminal at the 1:00 location looking from the back of the truck at the plug receiver. I can not seem to get power to that location. I have checked all the fuses but have no way to check the relays. I saw your response to a similar problem on a 2004 but the location of the relays is different in the 2002.

The easiest way to check a relay is to use a known good relay in place of a potential bad one. Then if the circuit starts working again you know that was the problem. Also there could be additional fuses that are not obvious but that are associated with the tow package wiring. The best place to ensure you have found them all is the owners manual.
If you cannot find any other fuses and the relays are all good then you can bypass the factory wiring. You will need about 20 feet of wire # 10-1-1 which is sold in 1 foot increments, and a 40 amp circuit breaker # PK54540. On the back of the 7-Way where the wires attach, remove the wire in the 11 oclock location and attach one end of the 10-1-1 wire in its place.
Then you will route the wire to the front of the vehicle avoiding areas that can pinch or burn the wire. Use wire ties to secure it to the vehicle frame. Then you will route it up into the engine compartment near the battery. Somewhere near the battery mount the circuit breaker. Cut the wire to length that you routed and attach it to the AUX post. Then with the remaining wire attach one end to the BAT post and the other to the positive battery terminal.
