Parts Needed to Add 7-Way for Brake Controller to 2022 Mazda CX-9

Question:

Hi I have 2022 Mazda CX-9 with 4 way trailer plug installed, I would like to consider curt wireless brake controller use with 7 way adapter part # 30717, does it work if I connect only black wire to accessory socket in the trunk with a connector I do not know Curt part #, on amazon the male plug cigarette lighter adapter power supply cord. If does not work what do I need to make it work. thanks

You will need to add a 7-way with its own 12V line for the Curt Echo # C51180 and trailer. I know it would be a convenient solution, but the accessory socket won't be rated high enough. It may also be tied to other circuits in your CX-9 which would lead to electrical issues.

The solution is the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L you were looking at. This comes with the adapter, wiring, circuit breaker, and everything else you need to install a working 7-way. This does not include the brake output wire, but it isn't necessary for that particular model of the Echo.

If you choose to go with a different brake controller that mounts in your vehicle you will want the # ETBC7 instead. This has the brake output wire and additional circuit breakers. I recommend looking at the Curt Echo Under-Dash Wireless Brake Controller # C27JR if you decide to go that route.

This brake controller mounts behind the dash so it is out of sight and out of the way. It has the same functionality of the other Echo without the need to plug it in each time and store it when not in use. You will also need the # C51515 for installation. Unless you want to use the brake controller on multiple vehicles I would get this version of the Echo instead.
