Recommended EcoHitch for a 2012 Honda Fit

Question:

In QandA #2, Ecohitch Part number 306-X7286 states the tongue rating of this hitch is 200 lbs. But your website info says 200 AND in places it says 300. This is really important!! I went to Torklift Centrals site and it says 300. However, neither you nor Torklift states whether this is a Class 1 or Class 2 hitch. Are not all hitches rated by Class? Thank you

I checked with Torklift and their website does say item # 306-X7286 has a 300 lbs tongue weight capacity. However, everything I can see online shows the 2012 Fit having a maximum 200 lbs tongue weight capacity. This is common amongst smaller cars. The manufacturers will make their hitches stronger and more capable than the vehicles they attach to are.

The best way to figure out what your model of Fit's actual capacity is is to call a local dealership and have them look up your VIN. Towing capacity is determined by a number of things. Vehicle weight, engine and transmission size, oil and transmission coolers, and suspension enhancements. It's best to go straight to the manufacturer to get an accurate answer.

Torklift does not class rate their hitches.

The EcoHitch item # 306-X7286 is custom fit and bolts to a 2012 Honda Fit with included hardware. It has a 2" hitch and weighs 36 lbs. This hitch is made in the USA.
