Comparing Snow Tire Chains and Cables for a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek
Question:
Hi, I currently have the glacier cable chains for my 2018 subaru crosstrek which i got from you a couple years ago, recently I read on one of you qanda that those only last for a few uses?. I have used them 4 times already. Am I due to get a new set or an upgrade? Been looking at the self tensioning Konigs. Which set would you advise, I do go to the mountains often on powDer days so would like something that gives me the best traction possible for snow and ice with all terrain wheels. Thanks for your help

A set of snow tire cables should not wear out after a few uses, if they are in good condition without rust there is no reason to stop using them no matter how many times you have done so before. That said, they really aren't your best option for frequent use as they just don't really compare performance wise to a set of actual chains. If you'll be doing any serious driving in the mountains you'll want the security and comfort offered from a set of chains. The Konig Tire Chains part # TH2004205104 are an excellent option for this with a diamond pattern for a smooth ride, square links for better traction, and a self-tensioning mechanism for an easy install.
