Brake Controller Kit for a 2005 Dodge Dakota
Question:
I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota. It did not come with the factory tow package. I have, however, installed the OEM tow hitch and OEM wiring harness. However, there is no plug under the dash to connect the brake controller. What other parts are needed to complete installation.

You will need a brake controller and Brake Controller Installation Kit, item # ETBC7. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, item # 90885 for your 2005 Dodge Dakota.
Wiring the ETBC7 will require plugging your 4-Way connector into the 7-Way connector installed on the rear of the vehicle, and then wiring the extra wires needed for the brake controller and trailer functions. Under the dash you will need to run the blue wire from the brake controller to the blue wire in the connector at the rear of the vehicle and then run the white wire to ground. Next run the red wire from the brake controller to the stop light wire coming from the brake pedal switch. Make sure to use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993 if needed, to find the wire that has no power until the brake pedal is pressed. Next run the black wire from the brake controller to the vehicle positive battery terminal through a 30-amp circuit breaker which is included in the ETBC7 Kit.
Finally, when running the accessory power wire to the 7-Way connector you will use the included 40-amp circuit breaker inline on this connection to the vehicle battery.
