Does Primer Need to Be Applied to Aluminum Roof Before Applying Alpha Systems 4034 Roof Coating

Question:

I purchased 2 gallons of the Alpha AL34CV roof coating for my 272 sq foot aluminum roofed trailer and then read you QandA where another person asked about surface prep. You mentioned the manufacturer recommends a primer. There is nothing on the container instructions suggesting a primer. It just says clean and dry. Can you tell me what primer should be used? Typically, when I paint aluminum, I first degrease and rinse thoroughly, then repeat with a TSP solution and a Scotch-Brite pad followed by a final thorough rinse and dry. Would this be adequate prep?

The prep you mentioned is more than adequate prior to applying the Alpha Systems 4034 Roof Coating for RV Roofs # AL34CV. According to the instructions you only need to apply the Primer # AL77CV if you're applying this to an EPDM membrane. In that case you'll need to clean and prime the rubber roofing prior to applying the 4034 roof coating.

Hope this clears things up for you!
