Compatability of Bike Rack Part # 63120 and Draw-Tite Class 1 Hitch part # 24807

Question:

I recently installed Draw-Tite 24807 on my Subaru Forester. None of my three draw bars fit on it one has a shaft too short to reach the pin hole, and two have shafts too long that only a small portion of pin hole can be seen. I drilled a second hole on one of the long draw bar to fit a pin. I am not comfortable with that, so I am thinking about cutting the end of the other long draw bar about 1/8. But I do not know where to go for that simple job. If you have any other advise, I would have appreciate. Now I am planning to buy a bike rack 63120, but before ordering it, I want to make sure whether its pin hole will align with that of my hitch receiver 24807.

The hitch you have, Draw-Tite part # 24807 is a Class 1 hitch. There are two different classes of 1-1/4 inch hitches, Class 1 and 2. Class 2 drawbars and bike racks will not fit Class 1 hitches. Class 1 hitches have a lower rating than Class 2 and to prevent people from accidentally exceeding capacities the manufacturers make it so that heavier Class 2 accessories are too long to be used in Class 1 hitches. But you can still use Class 1 accessories in Class 2 hitches.

The bike rack you were looking at, part # 63120, will fit both Class 1 and 2 hitches, so it will fit the hitch you have on your 2009 Subaru Forester. Make sure to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole past the Forester bumper to make sure the bike rack comes out far enough to clear the bumper. This measurement is included on all our bike rack pages.

As far as your drawbars, I would not recommend drilling or cutting them to adapt them to your hitch. It will void any warranties on them, and it could make them weak enough to break. The manufacturer recommended drawbar for this hitch is part # 3594 and should clear the bumper.

Make sure that when you buy products in the future to be used with this hitch that you make sure the parts will fit Class 1 hitches.
