Troubleshooting Hopkins Towed Vehicle Wiring Installed on a 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

I installed the Hopkins Towed Vehicle Wiring Kit #HM56202 in my 2005 Jeep Wrangler, but it does not work. The lights do not work with input from my tow vehicle. I tried with both vehicles ignition on and ignition on with engines running. Still no lights. When I removed the harness, the lights on my Jeep work again. My simple attempts at trouble shooting show good continuity from the flat plugs yellow, green, and brown wires to their other ends at the turn signal connectors.

Sounds like you've gotten a decent start on troubleshooting the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit # HM56202 on your 2005 Jeep Wrangler.

The first thing I recommend doing is checking the connector on your motorhome side - if there isn't any power present then that would be the issue. If you do end up having power at the motorhome then you'll want to connect to the motorhome and then check the different pins on the connectors themselves to make sure power is getting through to the connectors.

If you do have power there then you'll need to make sure the connectors are fully seated when you install them (also make sure they are installed on the correct sides). If you don't have power then you'll want to check for power going into and out of the converter box because odds are that box is bad which means you need to replace the wiring - be sure to take advantage of the warranty if that still applies.

I'm attaching an installation video for you to check out. Let me know if you're stilling having issues and I'd be happy to help further assist!
