Tools Needed To Replace 12,000LB Equal-i-zer Hitch Ball On Weight Distribution Hitch

Question:

2-5/16inch Hitch Ball for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems - 12,000 lbs Item # EQ91-00-6120 I have a 2018 Ford F250 Diesel 6.7L Powerstroke with Equalizer hitch set up currently to tow my 2019 International 30 ft Airstream. The set up is now 4 years old and the current hitch ball is showing signs of wear and I am thinking to have the ball replaced. Dealers and factory-trained locations are either booked for months or not accepting people for service unless they purchased the trailer at their location. I am full time so cannot leave my trailer at the shop. My question is do I need to have a factory-trained person remove the old hitch ball and install the new one or can I have it done myself? If the latter, then what are the specs for how to do it or have it done? Torque? Tools needed etc to have it done correctly / safely? Please advise. Thank you.

To replace your 2-5/16" Equal-i-zer Hitch Ball # EQ91-00-6120 you will need a Thin Wall Socket # EQ70-00-4800. You will also need a 3/4" drive ratchet, 6" extension, large crescent wrench and 3/4" torque wrench capable of 450 ft-lbs of torque. You will likely also need some penetrating oil to help remove the nut especially if you can see a lot of visible corrosion.

I have linked the installation instructions for the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET below so you will be able to go over all the torque specs for the hitch to ensure everything is till tightened correctly.
