Does The Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Need Replaced When Switching From Drum to Disc Brakes?
Question:
If I have electric over hydraulic trailer drum brakes and want to switch to disc brakes will I need to upgrade my brake actuator to a disc brake model.

Expert Reply:
Yes, you will need to upgrade your electric over hydraulic actuator when switching from drum brakes to disc brakes on your trailer. This is needed as disc brakes will require a higher pressure of hydraulic fluid to operate correctly. If you have the Dexter DX Drum # K71-650 you will need the Dexter DX Disc # K71-651. For the Hydrastar Drum # HBA-10 you will instead need the Hydrastar Disc # HBA16.
Do note you may also need to upgrade your brake lines if they are not rated for disc brakes or the flexible lines are not long enough to reach the calipers.
