Is 4-1/2 inches of Bed Rail to Overhang Clearance Enough Towing Fifth Wheel

Question:

I have 2020 Ram 2500 crewcab. I have 2020 cougar 5th wheel and BandW slider hitch and it is all the way down. My 5th wheel sits 1/2 inch to 1inch to high in front. Can I add 1/2 to 1inch spacer between axle and leaf spring on 5th wheel or would you move pinbox up 1inch and deal with only 4.5inch to 5inch of space between truck bed rails and 5th wheel? Thank you.

Helpful Expert Reply:

4 inches is considered to be the absolute minimum clearance between the truck bed rails and the fifth wheel overhang so at 4-1/2 inch to 5 inch you SHOULD be okay as long as you aren't in an area with a lot of extreme elevation changes. Other solution would be a lift for the trailer like with the Correct Track Tandem Lift kit part # RR23QX which can give your trailer either a 1-1/4 inch or 2-1/4 inch lift. This would allow you to have additional bed rail clearance and tow trailer level.
