Comparing Equal-i-zer and Curt MV Weight Distribution Hitch Systems

Question:

Thank you Gregory for your response. You suggested the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET for my 2021 Ram, towing a 30ft travel trailer. I was looking at your Curt MV Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round Bar - 10K GTW, 1K TW Item # C17062 for my truck. That would be sufficient for a tongue weight between 800 and 1000lbs, correct? Again, thank you for your advice and suggestions.

The Curt MV Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control # C17062 is rated for a trailer with a tongue weight of 800-1,000lbs and a maximum trailer weight of 10,000lbs. It is quite a bit different from the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET I recommended and rated for 800-1,200lbs of tongue weight and a trailer up to 12,000lbs. Mainly the Curt uses a friction bar sway control and round bar weight distribution.

The Equal-i-zer has trunnion weight distribution bars which will not hang as low as the round bars on the Curt. This reduces the chance of them hitting road debris or dragging on ground over speed bumps and hills. Also the Curt bars are held in by spring clips which have been known to fail and the spring bar to fall out while driving. The Equal-i-zer bars are held in place with pins and clips making them far more secure.

The friction sway bar included with the Curt hitch must be removed when maneuvering your trailer or driving on very curvy roads. It also needs to be removed when driving in reverse. If you do not remove the bar it could bend or damage one of the mounting balls on either the hitch or trailer. The trailer mounting requires you to drill into the frame to secure it on the trailer. The Equal-i-zer uses the tension of the weight distribution arms on the hangers to prevent sway. You will never have to remove any parts of the hitch when maneuvering your trailer, driving on very curvy roads or in reverse. The hangers sandwich on the frame with mounting hardware and no drilling into the frame is required.

Finally the Equal-i-zer is made in the USA and comes with a Lifetime warranty. The Curt is imported and the only give you a 1-year warranty which shows they do not have much confidence in their product lasting.
