Recommended 7-Way Connector and Brake Controller for a 2015 Wrangler Unlimited w/ out Tow Package
Question:
Hello, I have a 2015 jeep wrangler jku sport unlimited. Unfortunately I have no trailer plug on this model. I. Need to add a 7 pin harness to pull our small camper, also a brake controller. I would prefer a wired brake controller, not the wireless. Any help or advice you could give woukd be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Since your 2015 Jeep Wrangler JKU doesn't have a vehicle connector you're going to need to install two separate wiring harnesses to add a 7-Way connector. The first one you will need is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness item # 118416. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Jeep's wiring harness, behind the driver's-side tail light, to provide you with a 4-flat connector.
The second harness you will need is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your Jeep with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.
For your brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller item # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer brakes with the same strength as your Jeep's braking action. It automatically adjusts the trailer's braking based on deceleration of your Jeep. The brakes activate immediately, there is no pausing like with time-delayed brake controllers.
Since you do not have the tow package there is no plug in adapter. The P3 will need to be hardwired with the included wiring harness.
I have linked installation videos below for all of these products.
To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
