If you are talking about trailer wiring such as # 118467 or # C56040 then the factory connection point of the vehicle is not necessarily where it was on previous models.
While there are common places for the factory connections, every so often there are a few vehicles that have it in a different place. Subaru is actually notorious for this. The first place you are going to want to look is forward or rearward of where the connection is supposed to be.
If not located there, it may be on the other side of the vehicle. So you would basically follow the same instructions except on the opposite side of the vehicle.
In some instances, the location was found behind a passenger side kick panel near the front of the vehicle. Finding it may require the removal of additional interior panels. If you just cannot seem to find it I recommend visiting a Subaru dealer and asking them to locate it for you.
If you are talking about installing a brake controller and are looking for the proper wire on the brake switch you will need to use a circuit tester, # PTW2993, to test the wires on the brake switch located above the brake pedal. You need the one that only has power when the brake pedal is pressed and not when the headlights or turn signals are on.
