To tow a 5,000 lb trailer with your 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee 8 cylinder (5.7L engine) I recommend the following parts:

Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - # 75699
4-Way Wiring - # 118727
Universal Wiring Kit - # ETBC7 (for full 7-Way kit)
Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller - # RED24FR
Redarc Pigtail - # RED69FR
Curt Towing Starter Kit - # C45554

I like the Draw-Tite hitch because it's hidden and it features an integrated bracket that makes it easier to secure your trailer wiring sockets to. The 4-Way and universal wiring get you all of the wiring you need for all of the lights and brakes on your trailer and then the Tow-Pro Liberty is a small, almost hidden brake controller that I like recommending because it uses lights instead of codes to let you know what's going on, plus it can be installed virtually anywhere and it doesn't take up hardly any room.

The Curt towing starter kit includes the ball mount kit with a 4" drop and 2" hitch ball which should work with most trailers out there. With this specific hitch and ball mount combo your ball mount height will be about 11-1/4" which is something you'll need to note when looking at a trailer.

If you plan on towing at the 5K mark or above then you'll need a weight distribution system instead of a standard ball mount according to your owner's manual. A basic system that would be great at the 5kmark is the Blue Ox TrackPro # BLU36FR.

Attached are some installation videos for you to check out!
